FOODit EPOS

UX & D

Eradicating terrible meals by simplifying technology for restaurants and takeaways.
2014-2015

THE CHALLENGE

We wanted to design and build the ultimate “All in one” solution for restaurants and takeaways where they can manage their online and offline orders. We build websites for restaurants where people can order online, we wanted to take it to the next level and enable restaurants and takeaways to manage their online orders, takeaway orders and dine in customers from the same device….The ultimate Electronic Point of Sale: FOODit EPOS

My role:

UI & UX Designer working together with Product manager, Front end developer, Back end developer and supported and mentored by the Principal designer. Worked on this project alongside assisting the Principal designer in our other product: Centraldish

THE JOURNEY

Target audience:

We want to speak and appeal to restaurant and takeaway owners in UK, not tech savvy business owners therefore the application needs to be simple and intuitive enough so we can minimise the amount of training provided.

Requirements/comments from our users:
  • I would like to be able to control all my orders from 1 device only, even process card payments!
  • I would like to assign order to each of my drivers
  • I would like to be able to see all my customer’s information, phone numbers and email in order to make special offers or promotions
  • I would like to know how many times my customers are ordering from my shop
  • I don’t want my staff to steal from me
  • I would like to know where are my drivers anytime
  • I would like to change payment type, sometimes people don’t have enough cash or forget card
  • How do I know all the orders online are legitimate, how can I avoid fraud
  • I would like to be able to give refunds and discounts
  • I would like to easily change my menu
  • I would like to be able to add or subtract time from a delivery order
  • I would like to be able to manage my table bookings
Research and competitor analysis:

We started by looking at what’s out there, stepping into the user’s shoes and figure out what electronic point of sale are there, what online ordering options do I have. We shortlisted the following four; Epos now till, Intelligentpos, Nobly and CloverTwo POS. Great opportunity to register and observe how do they approach the new users on boarding.

Order information and Order flow:

It is important to know what kind of information is currently stored and/or can be assigned to the item order. Great opportunity to have a chat with the development team, understand how are current online orders behaving and start drafting the Order flow. We visited couple of restaurant and takeaways in the area to make sure what we design and build will improve their performance, speed and overall service.
